This river was crossed many times by Wagon Trains and traveler’s heading out west on the Oregon Trail. At that time, it was described as a mile wide and one inch deep. Today there are no Buffalo to rub against new trees and the river narrowed. When the Platte floods the old channels reveal themselves and the river is once again a mile wide . russhansen.com
